Amorphous metallurgy is based on specific alloy formulations designed to break the crystalline structure of the material and prevent its reformation during shaping. Vulkam offers 3 patented alloy families, based on niobium, zirconium, copper, and nickel.
Production involves selecting and dosing pure metals to create the alloy with the desired properties. Far more than a technical recipe, each element is chosen for its availability, price stability, and geopolitical supply reliability.
This approach gives our clients a controlled supply chain, eliminating supply disruption risks and limiting exposure to raw material price fluctuations.
Vulkam carries out its formulations on proprietary equipment. Input: pure metals. Output: calibrated billets, at the right composition, uncontaminated, ready for thermomolding.
The Vulkam Shaping Process
The calibrated billets are processed in a second machine: melted, then injected vertically into a metal mold, using a proprietary Vulkam process. This is where the transformation into amorphous material takes place: the liquid metal is cooled quickly enough that atoms do not have time to organize into a crystalline structure.
By precisely controlling shaping and cooling conditions, the Vulkam thermomolding process prevents the formation of a conventional crystalline structure, yielding an amorphous atomic structure with exceptional properties.
Vertical Injection: A Differentiating Element (Patented)
Vertical injection molding guarantees optimal metallurgy inside the part and, consequently, the best possible properties for your parts. This technology is the subject of a patent.
Finishing and precision
When tolerances or geometry require it, a machining step completes the manufacturing cycle. This step is not systematic: the native precision of thermomolding (±10µm) means many parts can be used directly without post-processing.
