Less invasive, more precise, connected: tomorrow’s medical devices must keep getting smaller. For medical device manufacturers, this is a very concrete design challenge. However, at very small scales, even the most advanced crystalline alloys (316L stainless steel, titanium, Nitinol) reach their limits: loss of stiffness, premature wear, or insufficient tolerances.
Vulkalloys® represent a major technological breakthrough, combining high mechanical strength with controlled elasticity and an immediate mechanical response.
What you can expect
Smaller parts, same performance. At equivalent performance, replacing grade 5 titanium with a Vulkalloy® alloy can reduce component size by up to 30%. Vulkalloy® Nb-Med, designed for healthcare applications, is up to three times stronger than grade 5 titanium. Thanks to its structure, it maintains its performance in ultra-miniaturized components.
Compatibility with sensitive environments. These alloys are non-magnetic: they are not attracted by magnetic fields and do not interfere with sensitive equipment.
Repeatability across the entire production run. Near-identical parts from one batch to the next, with tightly controlled tolerances: your micro-components behave consistently, which is essential for devices where dosing accuracy matters.
Even finer geometries when needed. To reach higher resolutions, secondary femtosecond laser machining enables micrometer-scale geometries with sub-10 µm accuracy.
In your applications
Surgical instrumentation: slim instruments that withstand high stresses, firm and consistent handling, and cutting tools with sharp, reproducible edges, for a steady response to the surgeon’s every movement.
Medical devices and micromechanics: pumps, injectors, and motorized instruments, with micro-components that resist wear over a large number of cycles.
Implants and fixation: smaller fixation elements with no compromise on strength. Threaded assemblies maintain a durable clamping force. Orthopedic staples can maintain continuous pressure without loss over time.
